Whiplash Without a Car In Texarkana?
Most people commonly associate whiplash neck and upper back area injuries with car accidents.
Car accidents do tend to cause particular types of injuries due to the sudden acceleration and deceleration of the neck when your vehicle is struck by another.
Other ways that similar whiplash injuries can occur include anything where there is a rapid change in movement of the neck relative to the body.
Other Sources of Whiplash Type Injuries include…
- A fight or assault
- Amusement park rides
- Activities like boating that include tubing or water skiing
- Sports, especially sports like boxing, MMA, football, soccer (often from collisions or heading the ball), hockey (see #1), etc
- Falls often from a height or when exercising (bicycle riding, roller skating / blading, skateboarding) – These are fairly commonly seen in kids.
Neck injuries do not always have immediate symptoms.
Commonly pain, headaches, muscle ‘spasms,’ and other symptoms take 72 hours to as long as a couple of weeks to fully show up after the whiplash injury. The pain and discomfort can last for months if not for years or a lifetime in some people.
It goes beyond pain, often the brain can be injured with a concussion / mild traumatic brain injury.
If the signs are very subtle (frequently they are subtle), they can missed by many people including parents and doctors.
These problems can result in a lifelong problem.
Most people are forced to pay attention to their pain after a collision injuring the neck.
The painful symptoms are not the problem though. The symptoms are there to tell the person about the injury to some structure.
As the pain persists, we tend to see acceleration of degenerative processes commonly caused arthritis where the joints and discs wear out and your body begins to deposit extra bone that becomes bone spurs.
Other serious problems from chronic whiplash develop over time.
The nervous system begins to re-wire to strengthen the constantly active pain system.
This is a bad adaptation because it makes it much more likely the person will experience future pain.
This is known as Chronic Pain.
Following a whiplash injury…
Whether due to a motor vehicle accident or some other type of force – the goal of chiropractic care is to return affected neck joints to their proper movement and position to improve healing of the damaged tissues, reduce stress/problems with the delicate nerves, and improve the function of the affected muscles.
It’s best to get early Chiropractic Treatment to avoid excess scar formation, unnecessary pain, and future problems… BUT even years after a whiplash injury we can often make a huge difference in you symptoms and ability to perform your day to day activities.
