Chiropractors Evaluate and Treat A Variety Of Problems and Dysfunction with a primary focus on improving Neuro-Musculoskeletal Problems and Health.
This tends to focus around pain (neck, back, extremities, chronic pain, etc) and injury recovery.
Chiropractors also see a variety of other problems ranging from vertigo to degenerative conditions and many other chronic problems that can be helped through non-drug, non-surgical methods – and this range is much greater than most people realize.
Chiropractic is most known for the adjustment but this is simply a tool that we use that can make rapid changes in the neuro musculoskeletal system.
Chiropractic treatment encompasses many different types of interventions depending on the unique needs of the patient and the individual Chiropractor.
Chiropractic treatment uses non drug, non surgical treatments to improve the function of an individual.
We use different types of physical treatment that range from the adjustment to many other types of physical therapies (Chiropractors are obviously not PTs, treatments may be similar at times).
Chiropractors often also work to improve lifestyle factors that are contributing to the person’s pain, dysfunction, and health problems.
This is important as we look at chronic diseases in our country. Chronic diseases are the greatest source of suffering and medical expenses in people.
The majority of these chronic disease processes are caused by and driven by lifestyle including diet, exercises, stress, sleep, job activities, and environmental exposure to various things.
The one thing that most people do not realize is that there are differences from Chiropractor to Chiropractor, just as there are differences in people in any profession.
The differences between Chiropractors include the physical performance of the adjustment for which we are so well known, but it goes much deeper than this.
There is often a large difference in evaluation of the patient between Chiropractors. This is driven by many factors including post doctorate education.
Chiropractors have many different post doctorate programs similar to how MDs have various specializations.
Chiropractic specialization ranges from neurology to radiology, orthopedics, nutrition, sports, and many more. Completing the coursework in these post-doctorate specializations allows a Chiropractor to become eligible to sit the specialization board.
Different Chiropractors are moving more towards specific niches depending on their interests, experience, philosophy, and education.
This has happened in all health professions.
The niching down to better serve a particular set of patients.
Even though, most Chiropractors also have some percentage of general practice.
This diversity is good in many ways for the patients that see the doctors of chiropractic.
It means that the individual patient might be best served with one doctor whereas the next may do better with someone else.
There are standards though and individual Chiropractors may take a much greater interest in continuing to learn and develop their skills to better serve each patient that comes in for help.
The big challenge is that too many people, the general public, sees chiropractic as a homogenous profession with every practitioner as the same.
This is clearly not true, just as there are vast differences between MDs there are differences between Chiropractors.
So in a round about way of talking about your question, there is a great variety in what Chiropractors do to treat.
It varies with the unique person, their problem, and the Chiropractor.
The treatments will involve physical treatments/therapies and rehabilitation. This includes the Chiropractic adjustment. It also often involves lifestyle recommendations to improve the problem, health, and reduce chances of recurrence.
