Understanding Chronic Inflammation
Chronic inflammation is a massive problem. It is involved in the majority of health issues many face today.
Chronic inflammation is linked to so many health problems… from chronic pain to a very wide range of other mild to very serious medical conditions.
Acute inflammation is different and distinct from chronic inflammation. Acute means recent or basically new inflammation.
Acute inflammation describes your body’s natural defense mechanism against an injury, infection, or a toxin. Acute inflammation is short term. It’s a necessary response to a problem. It becomes a problem when it continues over time.
Chronic inflammation is ongoing. When your immune system is constantly stressed, it can then lead to chronic inflammation which often leads to other health conditions… including chronic pain.
Why Chronic Inflammation Matters
Chronic inflammation is strongly associated with many chronic health problems.
In 2014, it was estimated that more than 50% of people had at least one chronic condition, and 40% of people had multiple chronic health conditions.
Chronic inflammatory diseases include things like breathing problems, heart problems, other cardiovascular issues, diabetes, degenerative brain disorders, and autoimmune problems, among so many others.
The majority of these disorders are linked directly to our lifestyle choices. Every day each of us has the option to either increase or decrease your state of inflammation through our day to day choices… our habits.
Here are some simple ways to start taking your life back from chronic inflammation:
- Eat right. Fruits and vegetables are high in natural antioxidants and may protect the body against inflammation.
- Get enough rest. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule can reduce your physical and emotional stress levels, which has been linked to a lower risk of chronic inflammation.
- Stay active. Exercise can lower the amount of pro-inflammatory chemicals in your body and benefit your cardiovascular and mental health.
Reducing your risk of chronic disease and inflammation begins with the choices you make every day, and we’re here to help you make the best decisions to help you live a full, active, and healthy life.
