“Is it possible to eat anything and still lose weight?”
A common question for so many people that are attempting to lose weight.
It is possible to eat anything in your diet and lose weight.
It takes very serious will power to do so and unfortunately, you would very likely be using calorie restriction if you decided to use this strategy.
Alternatively (or additionally), you could theoretically, exercise enough to drop some weight even with the same diet.
In practice, it doesn’t work well because of many factors including the fact that exercising will tend to make you more hungry.
The majority of people offset the calories lost through exercising by increasing calorie intake.
Going back to calorie restriction – it works, at least initially in those with an iron will.
Over time, it will likely fail for you because the more you focus on calorie restriction over time, your body will adapt to the new caloric intake by reducing your metabolic rate.
This means that you will likely be trapped in a cycle of ever-increasing calorie deficits where you’ll have to consume less calories to maintain the new weight.
Another complicating factor is that your body will adapt by generally making you conserve energy (essentially restating the metabolic rate problem). This makes exercising and recovery from exercise more difficult.
The calories in – calories out theory of weight loss does not account for metabolic and hormonal changes that occur over time and this is often what leads to why so many people fail to achieve their weight loss goals.
