Texarkana Car Accidents Cause Injuries
Car accidents are often pretty traumatic both physically and emotionally. It doesn’t matter if it’s a minor fender bender or your car was completely totaled. Your body is subjected to forces that can injure various parts.
People in the Texarkana area are often hurt in accidents.
I have helped thousand’s of people that suffered whiplash and other injuries from collisions get better.
Immediately after an accident, many people go to the ER or Urgent Care. These providers can screen for life threatening problems and provide some medication for initial pain relief.
Many other injured people never see anyone for evaluation.
Even those that go to the ER or Urgent Care, they frequently fail to follow up with a health care provider that can spend the time to evaluate them for functional changes and soft tissue injuries from the accident.
If you’ve been in a motor vehicle accident it’s likely you’ve suffered some degree of injury to many different parts of your body.
Your spine is particularly susceptible, but other injuries frequently occur as well.
The injuries tend to be tearing of soft tissues, often those supporting different joints in your body.
Some of these tears can be very small while others can be large or even complete tears.
Soft tissue injuries may include more serious musculoskeletal injuries like disc tears and disc herniations.
Common symptoms after a car accident:
- headaches (common in whiplash injuries)
- neck pain
- shoulder pain that often occurs as your body is forced to rotate over the seat belt
- lower back pain that may radiate into the hip and leg
- other injuries to the upper extremities and lower extremities
- nausea, dizziness, balance issues, and memory loss that may be related to a concussion
- fatigue that may also be from a concussion and often from inability to sleep
Pain may start immediately after the collision.
At times though, the pain doesn’t show up for a 1 or 2 after the trauma as your body begins to respond and react to the soft tissue injuries.
It’s best to seek evaluation and treatment right away after an accident rather than taking a wait and see approach.
This is especially true if you are taking other medications that may mask your new injuries for another health problem particularly pain relievers (even over the counter pain relievers), muscle relaxers, or steroidal medications.
