Texarkana Car Accidents Cause Low Back Pain
When most people think of being injured in an accident, they think of whiplash type injuries to the neck that cause neck , headaches, and other problems in the shoulders and arms.
Low back pain is also a common complaint after a crash.
Many different factors can effect how much your back may be hurt in a collision.
These range from the angle of impact to your height, your size, position in the seat, position of the seat, and much more including past injuries that make it more likely for you to hurt your back during an accident.
The seat belts that we should wear will cause some degree of twisting of your torso that can transmit forces into your back that can injure various parts. The pelvis and hips tend to be secured to the seat with the seat belt but the lower back is less secure.
This coupled with the some of those risk factors noted above commonly results in lower back pain and injury. It can also result in hip and sacroiliac joint (SI joint) injuries.
The problem is that we often don’t feel everything that was injured right after an accident.
In fact, we might not feel the injuries until we put the areas under stress which may not happen right away. There’s even more to it though.
Relying upon pain or symptoms as the only sign of injury doesn’t always work.
For example, you may already be on a pain reliever, steroid, or anti-inflammatory medication for any number of problems ranging from ‘arthritis,’ to some inflammatory condition to an autoimmune disease. These medications will mask the symptoms of new injury, but it doesn’t mean it’s not there.
… Or another area might be bothering you so much that you don’t pay attention to the other injuries, you may have a very high pain tolerance, or the injury doesn’t cause pain but another problem.
This is why it is so important to see the right doctor after an accident, one that is very experienced at evaluating and helping Texarkana area people that have been injured in an accident whether suffering with back pain or not.
Unfortunately, Many Injuries Are Missed When People Get Hurt In A Collision.
It’s often because the person suffering after an accident sees the wrong doctor for their injuries.
Most people involved in an accident are seen by a local ER and then may follow up more often than not with their family doctor.
These types of doctors are better suited for managing other types of health problems and generally not the types of injuries that occur in motor vehicle accidents.
Chiropractors experienced in personal injury are much better suited to fully evaluate and manage the types of injuries that occur in a collision.
It should be noted that not all Chiropractors treat extremity problems like shoulder, arm, hand, and lower extremity injuries.
We do help many people with these types of injuries here at Hagebusch Chiropractic.
The only way to see if your back and other common injuries are present is to spend enough time with the injured person going through the full history of what has happened to them, followed by the right exam.
No doctor of any type is ‘magic.’
We must spend the time to do a complete evaluation so that we don’t miss injuries.
The doctors that see car accidents whether a DC (Chiropractor), MD, or DO have to spend the time and do the work to find out where the problems are in the injured person in front of us.
This is why we’re here… in order to provide the best care possible to every person.
