Treating Temporomandibular Joint Pain and Dysfunction (TMD/TMJ)
The TMJ is located just in front of your ears. The joint allows you to open and close your jaw.
Pain and dysfunction of the jaw appears to be a fairly common problem. The National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research estimates that as many as 10 million Americans have a TMJ dysfunction and that up to 75% of the population may have some symptom related to their jaw.
Symptoms of TMJ Dysfunction
The symptoms of TMJ problems vary from person to person. Often it may cause headaches, jaw pain, clicking/popping of the jaw, difficulty eating certain foods, earaches, or even locking of the jaw in some cases.
What Causes TMJ Problems?
Problems with the jaw can be the result of trauma from various sources (car accidents, sports injuries, etc), athritis/degenerative changes, bite problems/alignment issues, grinding your teeth, muscle tension in the muscles that move the joint, among other reasons.

This is why it might be an excellent idea to get checked by a chiropractor that treats TMJ problems.
