“I’ve got pain in my back and hips that I think is coming from my SI joints. What should I do?”
Many people refer to pain in the area of the SI joints (an area just below and beside your lower back) as ‘hip’ pain. This pain is often in the area around the area where a little bony ledge can be felt.
It often causes some pain into the back of the hip, in the ‘butt’ muscles that move the hip and help stabilize the region.
It’s always best to get checked out to find out exactly what is causing your problem instead of just treating it yourself at home.
It’s not always what you think and, at times, can even be something very serious.
Other times, certain types of treatment whether at home or in office, can help whereas other types might not help or even worsen the problem.
If you want someone to evaluate your back and SI joints, then I would highly recommend starting with a chiropractor because this is something that we, as chiropractors, do on a daily basis.
Assuming it’s dysfunction in the SI joint(s), then a chiropractor can usually take care of the problem fairly easily. If it’s something else in the area, it’s very likely we can help that too!
It might require working with the SI joint itself, the back, the hips, other areas and/or some stretching, rehabilitation exercises, various types of therapies, etc.
Your specific treatment will depend on exactly what is causing the problem in you.
