We have been discussing Neurological Inflammation which is due to changes in the brain’s immune system over the last several posts.
The series is based upon some of the latest research presented by Dr. Kharrazian on neurological inflammation including the process, the causes, and natural treatments that helps the serious problem.
The 1st post was a defined the process of neurological inflammation, what happens in the brain and why.
The 2nd post explained brain inflammation and it’s importance of understanding many fairly common neurological symptoms that might be difficult to diagnose including brain fog which a doctor may tell you ‘it’s all in your head.’ This of course a worthless idea even though in this case true but not in the way they understand.
The 3rd post looked at how a mother’s stress during a pregnancy can activate the unborn baby’s innate immune system and “pre-wires” the baby’s immune system for problems in the future.
Traumas, Stressors, and The Brain’s Immune System…
This same exact process happens after birth from some major stressor that activates or primes the brain’s immune system.
Here’s the basic, over-simplified changes necessary to begin reducing neurological inflammation and damage.
Reducing neurological inflammation.
Tipping the scales in your favor if you have neurological inflammation with lifestyle changes…
- Sleep. Improve sleep quality and insomnia. Easier said than done sometimes but this likely means reducing pain with the appropriate amount/type of chiropractic care, improving blood sugar problems, addressing sleep apnea, and possibly other issues.
- Diet. Elimination of dietary proteins might help some people. This includes #1 gluten (grains), #2 dairy, #3 corn (a grain), #4 soy, and often others depending upon the specific person.
- Exercising consistently at the right intensity, frequency, time (length), and type of exercise for you. The amount and intensity are very important. Each person needs a certain ‘dose‘ where too much intensity or time may cause further problems. This is why someone may feel very bad after exercising, if they drove their nervous system too hard too soon. Conversely, if you don’t do enough then there won’t be any benefit.
- Stress reduction which may include many different things depending upon the person. This is an important and often over-looked part of care that is necessary for so many people.
- Very likely supplementing with various things to help reduce the ongoing problem and to correct damage to the gut and blood brain barriers. The type will depend upon the person.
- There’s more and many people have to make other changes depending upon so many different factors that are unique to the individual.
Recovering. How To Get Better.
The process that mentioned previously (here) about the brain’s immune system is shown in a huge amount of research.
This inflammatory process in the brain happens. It’s part of cleaning up problem areas. It does get carried away at times and the result can be devastating.
Unfortunately, it’s also fairly common when someone has…
• a concussion,
• a significant infection,
• a major stressor or chronic high stress levels,
• chronic gut problems,
• reactions to dietary proteins (gluten, dairy, corn, and soy at the top of the list),
• chronically high blood sugar/insulin (diabetics, pre-diabetics),
• loss of oxygen (anemia, asthma, emphysema, COPD,…),
• over training from too much exercise with too little recovery for you,
• losses of sleep,
• and even as we age among other things.
The results of neurological inflammation can be absolutely devastating to you and your family.
Often it can be challenging for people, any person, when attempting to improve their health with lifestyle changes.
Some changes are difficult. Many people don’t want to change their habits because it can be hard.
People often don’t change because they don’t understand what’s at stake.
The consequences of not following through on all the recommendations including both chiropractic care and lifestyle recommendations to improve chiropractic based musculoskeletal problems and their effects among other things – will very likely result in bigger problems over time.
The longer these problems persist, the worse they will very likely get and the less likely that you’ll end up getting your life back at least to the degree that you would like.
By the time I first see someone, in many cases they’ve had problems for years… even if their symptoms haven’t been going on constantly for that period of time. It’s best to address the problem as soon as possible. It should be said too though… better late than never.
