How fast can pre-diabetics become diabetics?
It can happen very quickly as shown in a recent study.
Just 2 weeks of low activity pushed pre-diabetics into full blown diabetics and they did not return to pre-diabetic status after returning to normal activities for 2 weeks.
Both prediabetes and diabetes are serious health problems.
They are part of something called ‘metabolic syndrome‘ where you develop problems with insulin resistance and blood sugar regulation due to chronically elevated blood sugar and insulin.
It damages every part of your body.
This is especially serious for the brain, nervous system, and heart.
Many people develop peripheral neuropathy, chronic pain, balance problems, and brain based problems like memory loss and even dementia. We’ve helped so many of these people at our Texarkana Clinic.
Others may suffer cardiovascular disease including heart attacks, kidney disease, problems with their eyes, and so much more.
It leads to a lot of suffering, disability, and unfortunately for most a very early death.
These processes occur slowly over time, but once you hit a certain threshold the problem can accelerate quickly.
This is what the researchers found in the study mentioned above.
Findings are published online in The Journals of Gerontology.
Lifestyle including diet, exercise, sleep, and stress can dramatically hit you and push you into more serious disease as shown here with movement.
The good news is that positive changes can also cause major changes!
It should be noted though that it takes more time to improve your health than to lose it as shown here.
We recommend a gradual exercise regiment that will vary depending upon you and your other health issues.
Plus a diet that removes sugar, processed foods (think anything made from ,grains), and the vegetable oils that have been shown to increase inflammation and other health problems.
Here’s another blog post about an extremely common commercial oil, soybean oil, and a few reasons why you should avoid it.
Of course, every person is different and requires variations in exercise and diet.
Often times pre-diabetics and diabetics have become increasingly more sedentary because they experience ever increasing amounts of pain from various neuro musculoskeletal problems coupled with their blood sugar and insulin problems that drive inflammation.
This lack of movement and exercise serves to drive the disease process forward in a viscous cycle.
We help so many of these people in Texarkana improve pain and movement with chiropractic care in addition to helping them with lifestyle changes to improve their health.
We help our Texarkana patients with lifestyle changes to help them live healthier, more active lives.
