Research Into The Benefits Of A Paleo Diet For Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic Syndrome is very common in Texarkana and in the US. It’s a growing problem that is even effecting our kids now.
Metabolic Syndrome can be helped through lifestyle modifications.
In fact, many researchers consider metabolic syndrome a lifestyle disease.
Improving metabolic syndrome will have a positive impact on your health and your ability to enjoy life.
A recent study published in the American Society of Nutrition compared different dietary changes and their effect on improving metabolic syndrome.
Researchers wanted to determine if a Paleo type diet would improve risk factors for chronic disease compared to other diet approaches.
4 randomized control trials were reviewed for the study that included 159 participants.
According to the researchers, the Paleo diet resulted in greater short term improvements compared to the control diets.
From the Conclusion of the paper…
- In this systematic review and meta-analysis of 4 RCTs, Paleolithic nutrition resulted in greater short-term pooled improvements on each of the 5 components of the metabolic syndrome than did currently recommended guideline-based control diets.
- The greater pooled improvements did not reach significance for 2 of the 5 components (HDL cholesterol and fasting blood sugar). In other words, these improved, but not to a degree that was statistically significant.
- There was moderate quality evidence for greater weight loss on Paleolithic nutrition relative to the control diet.
An ever growing number of people are ‘going paleo’ and this research demonstrates some benefits that may help even unhealthy people get some of their health challenges under better control.
