This morning I was listening to someone interviewing Dave Ramsey. Dave Ramsey is the 'pay off your debt guy' or at least that's how most people see him.
He was discussing how achieving financial success required several different things, but it started and ended with psychology.
He stated, "The problem with most people is simply the guy or girl in the mirror. Whether they succeed or not, is virtually 100% dependent on what they think and what they do… but it starts with their thoughts."
He went on to describe his pro-active approach to getting various financial items in order… including the fact that if you want to improve your financial health, you should simply look at what everyone else is doing and do the opposite because the average person wasn't doing very well.
What really struck me was how closely this simple idea mirrors the best approach to many people for improving health.
Taking a pro-active role in our own health has become increasingly important given today's rapidly changing health insurance model… Too many of us wait until there is a crisis before we are forced to change.
I've been fortunate enough to be able to see and help over 7,000 patients since I started practicing 20 years ago.
What I have found is that it's often fairly easy to get people out of pain with treatment.
The only challenge is getting people to take the first step instead of waiting on things to get worse worsening and waiting for a crisis.
I've had several patients over the years go into liver failure and others go into kidney failure from taking over the counter pain relievers and prescription medication for symptoms that can be treated effectively and resolved in other ways without those same potential risks. I've seen others develop ulcers after taking over the counter pain relievers for many years.
It doesn't happen to everyone of course…
In a greater percentage of people though, the problem is that treating symptoms does not correct the underlying issues which ultimately leads to ever worsening problems that end up really interefering with your ability to enjoy life. It happens much quicker than most people realize.
The pain, stiffness, and spasms that many people are experiencing, possibly what you are experiencing, can very likely be helped even if you've been told that there isn't anything else that can help you.
