Recent Study Reveals Some Very Important Information About Back Pain and Disc Injuries.
Lower Back (Lumbar) Disc Injuries can cause significant pain, dysfunction, and often a loss of ability to work, participate in a sport, or favorite hobby.
This initial disc problem can also lead to ongoing lower back pain that leads to taking many medications and even surgery.
Disc Injuries can improve though with the right treatment.
Chiu and others looked at 31 different published studies that looked at improvement of various types of lumbar disc injuries.
What did they find?
"The rate of spontaneous regression was found to be 96% for disc sequestration, 70% for disc extrusion, 41% for disc protrusion, and 13% for disc bulging. The rate of complete resolution of disc herniation was 43% for sequestrated discs and 15% for extruded discs."
"Spontaneous regression of herniated disc tissue can occur, and can completely resolve after conservative treatment."
What this means to you, if you have a disc injury, is that your disc injury can improve with conservative care.
An important point about discs though is that a disc injury won't heal back to 100% normal – even if the bulge or herniation improves. It will be easier to hurt it in the future.
You're also more likely to have some symptoms like pain in the future…
BUT you are often able to significantly improve your pain and disability allowing you to get back to living your life with the right care…
AND many patients are able to get out of pain with the right chiropractic care.
