If you're suffering with ongoing Neck Pain and Back Pain, then this is very likely the solution to ending your pain.
A study published in the Journal Spine compared Chiropractic, Acupunture, and Medication treatment of chronic neck and back pain. The results demonstrated that Chiropractic Care worked faster and better for the majority of cases.
"Chronic Spinal Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing Medication, Acupuncture, and Spinal Manipulation" Spine July 15, 2003; 28(14):1490-1502
The study's authors compared medication, acupuncture, and chiropractic spinal manipulation for managing chronic spinal pain in the neck and back.
Chronic pain, by definition is pain lasting longer than 3 months. In this study, here's how long on average the 3 groups had experienced neck or back pain…
In the Chiropractic Treatment group the average pain was 8.3 years prior to Chiropractic Care. The average in the medication group was 6.4 years. The average in the acupunture group was 4.5 years.
This means that the Chiropractic Group had experienced neck or back pain significantly longer on average than the other groups.
The results demonstrated better early recovery from chronic neck and back pain with chiropractic manipulation (27.3%). Acupuncture came in a distant 2nd at 9.4%. Medication was the least effective of the 3 groups with 5% early recovery.
Chiropractic manipulation demonstrated the best results on the reductions in pain and improvement in function scales with improvement of 50% (Oswestry) and 38% on the Neck Disability Index.
Also significant improvement in neck and back range of motion was noted in the chiropractic manipulation group.
The authors did note that numerous studies have shown that patients with low back pain do exhibit abnormal spinal motion.
The study's authors concluded that in patients with chronic spinal (neck and back) pain, chiropractic manipulation results in greater short term improvement than either acupuncture or medication.
They went on to state that there is “insufficient evidence for the use of NSAIDs to manage chronic lower back pain, although they may be somewhat effective for short-term symptomatic relief.” They also noted that there were significant numbers of well documented adverse reactions to NSAID medications.
The study referenced above, does support the effectiveness of Chiropractic Care for chronic neck pain and chronic back pain. These conditions are often more difficult to treat than acute (recent onset) back pain or neck pain.
Other studies have found, "Spinal Manipulation Proves Safe and As Beneficial As Surgery In Lower Back Disc Herniations With Sciatica (Leg Pain)."
A lot of recent press has come out with reasons to be concerned about other pain relievers, the opiates.
