Bed Wetting (Enuresis)
In this video, we look at research undertaken to see how chiropractic care may help with enuresis (involuntary urination, especially by infants and kids at night).
Bed wetting or nocturnal enuresis is fairly common in kids.
Of course we expect it in very young children but if it persists as the child gets older it indicates some problem in the ability to hold it through the night or get up if necessary.
This is a potentially frustrating problem for parents and very embarrassing for the child.
Some published case studies and a small study indicate that Chiropractic Care might help some children.
This is due to changes in neurological function.
Chiropractic care is not really a treatment for a specific condition like bed wetting.
Physical treatments can improve a person’s function.
Most of these changes are in the nervous system because of the way we’re wired.
Input from the environment through tiny receptors located throughout our bodies drive our brain and nervous system.
The nervous system then processes the information and makes specific outputs which change the way our bodies are working. Some of these changes are very complex.
Improving function can improve neurological function and create many positive changes in our bodies.
The older, small study referenced in the video is an interesting example of how changing function through a chiropractic treatment can have other effects on how a body (in this case a child’s body) is working.
Again, chiropractic is used to improve function not treat a disease or a specific problem like bed wetting… even though there is evidence referenced in the video that it might improve.
If your child has a symptom, a problem like bed wetting, then it’s likely there are other problems in the child as well.
Some of these problems may be able to be improved with the right chiropractic care and that’s why we suggest seeing a chiropractor for you and for your child.
