A recent study in the Journal Obesity finds that taking kids out of schools and locking them in their homes had a significant impact on their health.
Kids gained weight and adopted/increased numerous bad habits.
Here’s what the researchers reported…
“Compared to behaviors recorded a year prior, the children ate an additional meal per day; slept an extra half hour per day; added nearly five hours per day in front of phone, computer and television screens; and dramatically increased their consumption of red meat*, sugary drinks and junk foods.
Physical activity, on the other hand, decreased by more than two hours per week, and the amount of vegetables consumed remained unchanged.”
Kids ate much more food with more “bad” foods and exercised much less instead adding 5 extra hours of media per day.
This is a recipe for disaster. Our kids are already very unhealthy as a whole. We as parents have to control bad habits and increase good ones in our kids.
At Hagebusch Chiropractic Texarkana, we believe that health is a process that sometimes requires a healthcare practitioner to help. We also believe that a true healthcare practitioner has to help a person improve their health through lifestyle changes that help people feel better, lose weight, perform better, and be able to do the things in life that they enjoy doing.
*One final point about this article. Red meat is not unhealthy. It’s formed a massive part of humans diets throughout history long before we were ravaged by obesity and chronic diseases. This one point alone strongly suggests red meat is not a problem despite the fact that we continue hearing how bad it is for us over and over again.
