Medical Use Of Aspirin May Have Made 1918 Flu Pandemic Worse
Interestingly, by many reports both Chiropractors and Osteopaths (they used to be like Chiropractors and were in 1918) were more successful treating infected patients during the Spanish Flu Epidemic when compared to the horrible numbers treated by their Medical Doctor counterparts.
Treatments between these two groups (Chiropractors and Osteopaths versus Medical Doctors) were markedly different. One group focused on improving function and the other used medications, including aspirin.
This may have also contributed to the much higher death rates treated by Medical Doctors as they used the relatively new drug, aspirin.
During the Spanish flu, patients were giving aspirin and later had bleeding of the lungs.
“The devastation of the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic is well known, but a new article suggests a surprising factor in the high death toll: the misuse of aspirin. The article sounds a cautionary note as present day concerns about the novel H1N1 virus run high.”
Note that right now, we’re having major problems related to another virus – covid-19 the coronavirus. There have been reports that nsaids (ibuprofen and many other pain relievers), fever reducers, and anti-inflammatories may put a person at greater risk of more severe complications with the virus.
