Are Artificial Sweeteners Making You Gain Weight?
Over the last several years, it’s become increasingly apparent that sugar is causing major health problems for a huge number of people… implicated in everything from weight gain, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and so many other terrible chronic diseases.
People have turned to using artificially sweetened foods that replace sugar with various man-made substances that taste sweet.
The question is does this replacement help people lose weight and improve their health?
A recently published study looked at abdominal obesity and use of artificial sweeteners.
The findings will be surprising to many people (from the study)…
“In a community volunteer cohort study of 1454 men and women with 8268 person-visits over 28 years, low-calorie sweetener use was associated with heavier weight, a larger waist, and a higher prevalence and incidence of abdominal obesity…
even after accounting for diet quality and weight and body size at the time of low-calorie sweetener use assessment.
These data suggest that low-calorie sweetener consumption may deleteriously affect visceral fat deposition, a strong risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality.”
This is evidence that artificial sweeteners are associated with gaining weight (not losing) and increased risk of heart/cardiovascular problems and death.
