Good News, Bad News.
90% of those adults hospitalized for severe COVID19 complications have a significant underlying health condition with a significant skew towards older people.
The most common risk factors are being older (particularly older than 65), hypertension, obesity, chronic lung disease, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease.
The hospitalization rate during the four-week period measured was 4.6 per 100,000 population.
This again reinforces the idea that if you are healthy and if you are younger, it’s very unlikely that you will have any serious problems from the coronavirus.
This is despite what we see so much on the news and in social media posts.
The Best Defense Against Both An Infection And An Early Death From Chronic Diseases.
The reality is that the best defense outside of being younger which unfortunately, we can not change, is to be healthy.
The one thing not mentioned is that these risk factors above are primarily due to lifestyle.
It’s our daily habits of sleep, socialization (sadly lacking right now!), stress levels, diet, exercise, among others that either improve our health or cause us to lose our health.
We are not just left to random chance and our genetics for most problems.
We can do something about it, about our health… even in today’s crazy world with the coronavirus.
I’m not saying it will save you from any immediate threat.
I am saying that it will reduce your chances of something really bad happening to you and the risk factors can change quicker than most people imagine.
