How To Reduce Your Risks Of Alzheimer’s & Other Dementias, Improve Your Blood Sugar, Have More Energy, Lose Weight, and Feel Better!
These are quotes from Neurologist and researcher, David Perlmutter. He is a Medical Doctor that had the unfortunate circumstance of watching his neurosurgeon father slip into Alzheimer’s dementia.
This led him to start looking into what’s really happening with brain problems and degeneration which you would probably have believed he already knew.
He did not.
It’s not taught in medical school. He had to learn this after his medical training on his own.
This is true of so many things in healthcare and because of the rapid changes in information with an explosion of research in so many different areas… it’s much more important now than ever before that your healthcare practitioners are constantly learning so that they can better serve you.
Quotes From Neurologist Dr. Perlmutter…
“Food is medicine. We can actually change our gene expression with the foods we eat.” David Perlmutter
Genetics. How To Change Your Gene Expression.
We hear so much about genetics since we’ve recently started being able to identify so many different genes and are beginning to understand what they do.
The one thing that is lost in this message is that our genes can be turned on or off. This happens based on what we do and what we’re exposed to in our life. This includes what we eat and what we don’t eat.
“Researchers have known for some time now that the cornerstone of all degenerative conditions, including brain disorders is inflammation.
But what they didn’t have documented until now are the instigators of that
inflammation. The first missteps that prompt this deadly reaction.
And what they are finding is that gluten, and a high-carbohydrate diet for that matter, are among the most prominent stimulators of inflammatory pathways that reach the brain.”
“Gluten is this Generation’s Tobacco. It may seem draconian, but the
best recommendation I can make is to completely avoid grains.”
“The origin of brain disease is in many cases predominantly dietary.
Although several factors play into the genesis and progression of brain disorders, to a large extent numerous neurological afflictions often reflect the mistake of consuming too many carbs and too few healthy fats.”
“Even slight elevations in blood sugar have been shown to increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.”
Our ‘normal’ blood sugar as given by labs continually creeps upward as the average blood sugars tested increases. This is because they use averages to
determine normal… and now virtually everyone is sick, especially those getting labwork.
The Big Idea from Dr. Perlmutter.
Here we have a Medical Neurologist saying that all degenerative disorders start with inflammation, including brain degeneration (Alzheimer’s dementia, Parkinson’s, …).
Dr. Perlmutter then states that this inflammation most often starts with two things…
- A high carbohydrate diet which drives up blood sugar and insulin.
- Gluten, a protein found in grains. He feels so strongly about this that he wrote a book about this very topic, “Grain Brain.”
There’s A LOT more to it.
