Diet and Fibromyalgia, General Guidelines To Improve Your Pain, Fatigue, and MANY Other Symptoms With A Simple Diet
It’s important to work with a health care practitioner that can help you eliminate other problem foods, not only gluten and glutamate (see links for problems concerning these and fibromyalgia).
Other critical issues revolving around your body weight, blood sugar, and insulin levels should be considered because these types of problems are very common. High blood sugar levels and high insulin levels will drive pain and inflammation, as well as, making people gain body fat.
Higher body fat will also tend to drive other problems including pain simply from the mechanical stresses adding to the musculoskeletal problems you may already be experiencing.
Blood sugar/insulin issues can also have an effect on your pain and general health.
Other dietary factors will also be unique to you, so it’s always best working with a practitioner that understands these issues.
Making very generalized dietary recommendations, in addition to removing exitotoxins and gluten as previously discussed…
Do not eat:
- Any highly processed foods (think especially grain based foods and sugar added foods).
- Remove heavily processed seed and grain oils.
- Remove as much artificial chemical foods as possible.
Important… Read every single ingredient in every food you eat.
It may make sense to limit:
- Fruit (depending on your specific problems)
- Root vegetables
- Nuts and seeds (generally high in inflammatory omega 6 fats and often roasted in highly processed, inflammatory oils… PLUS many are coated with grain products and some with MSG)
Eat:
- A very high amount of varied non-starchy vegetables, primarily those that are above ground.
- Note: Corn is a grain, not a vegetable. Green beans, peas, soy, etc are legumes not vegetables. Eating these foods is not eating vegetables.
- Eat a variety of meats from different animals, including land and sea animals.
There are other general recommendations that I’ll post later.
There are also specific recommendations that would have to be individualized for you by a practitioner.
Another consideration that can be helpful in fibromyalgia is looking at your vitamin D levels. Exercise, if done with the right approach, often makes a big difference in fibromyalgia sufferers.
