In the last post, I discussed the truth about health and disease.
In this post, I want to cover a few things that will change everything for you if you really want to improve your health, energy, pain levels, and more.
Our country is losing it's health and it's happening very, very quickly. The rate is accelerating.
We haven't all of a sudden had a major change in our genetic composition.
It has to do with our environment, both inside and outside our bodies.
We're living under greater stress, time pressures, and are being led down the wrong path away from health as we eat another bad meal because we don't have time.
We don't exercise because we don't have the energy or are experiencing too much pain.
Before going further, it's really important to explain health.
According to the World Health Organization, "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (sickness)."
This is an important distinction. If you have a symptom, any symptom, whever it's headaches, pain, dizziness, fatigue, insomnia, etc… you are already un-healthy according to that definition.
What if you are overweight?
I would suggest that this is a symptom and is certainly a big risk factor for developing virtually any chronic disease and disability. Further, it contributes to more pain and losses of ability to exercise.
I'm NOT suggesting it's your fault if this is you. You have been sold a theory about weight and obesity that is both inaccurate and dangerous.
I'll talk a lot about weight and obesity in another series of posts.
Going back to health.
If you don't have a symptom, are you healthy?
Maybe…
You may not have any symptoms yet but are very likely already developing a chronic disease process whether it's heart disease, cancer, an autoimmune disorder, arthritis, or something else.
These diseases generally start decades before symptoms develop.
The problem with most of us is that we have the wrong strategy when considering our health.
We think we're healthy until our symptoms get bad enough that we go to a doctor to get a medicine to help the symptom.
Too often, we never address the problems that created the symptoms to begin with – this includes many lifestyle factors.
Our health strategy, collectively as a nation is to wait until we lose our health and this strategy is failing us.
This is the real reason for our health care crisis.
As a chiropractor, I help people with a variety of problems… generally focusing on pain and painful conditions.
Yes, most come to see me as a Chiropractor because they have neck pain, shoulder, pain, headaches, or some extremity complaint BUT I also help each person develop a better strategy to really improve their health through things that they can do before it's too late.
In the next post, I'll discuss another change in thinking that will allow you to accomplish your health goals this year.
