Car Accidents
Car accidents happen… unfortunately they happen to most people. Causing so many injuries in Texarkana and beyond.
Seeing the right chiropractor after the accident should always be one of your first steps to see what, if anything, was injured.
Seeing a chiropractor is important even if you are not feeling any pain at the time.
It’s common for people to not feel pain right away.
Musculoskeletal injuries from collisions accidents may lead to post-traumatic osteoarthritis.
Research has shown a speeding up of the arthritis process after being injured in an accident causing people to have so many problems as they age.
Types Of Injuries and Common Symptoms
Most injuries from a crash aren’t seen just looking in the mirror or by others.
The injuries are typically to the deeper structures, especially of the spine but elsewhere as well.
These deep soft tissue injuries (injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and discs) don’t heal the same way that a bone heals.
Soft tissue heals with scar tissue which is stiffer, weaker, and with a greater number of pain type nerves innervating it.
This leads to potentially serious problems that can limit a person’s activities and ability to enjoy life for the rest of their lives.
Often people can suffer a concussion or a traumatic brain injury in a crash.
The spine is another especially susceptible structure to injury because of the way we’re sitting in a car, the seat belt, and the small structures involved with the very large forces from the crash.
This often leads to recurring various types of headaches, neck pain, muscle tightness, muscle spasms, low back pain, disc problems, arthritis, postural changes, and a greater risk of future injury… among so many other issues.
Even the spinal cord and nerve roots that exit the spine can be bruised, stretched, and compressed.
The spinal ligaments can be torn and cause permanent instability in the spine. This can be seen with special x-rays.
Unfortunately these x-rays usually aren’t done at the ER or by doctors that are unfamiliar with these types of injuries.
Many of these ‘whiplash‘ and other types of injuries happen even at lower speeds.
