Can Chiropractic Help Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder is a term used to describe something called adhesive capsulitis.
Frozen shoulder causes stiffness and pain in the shoulder. It tends to be progressive with greater losses of movement and more pain as the problem continues.
These progressive losses of movement are the reason the shoulder is called ‘frozen.’
It starts with some type of injury or a problem that limits shoulder range of motion for a period of time.
This limits movement and as the body responds to the injury more and more scar tissue can form within the joint.
Frozen shoulder typically develops slowly over time and in three stages. Each stage can last a number of months.
- Freezing stage. All movement of your shoulder causes pain and your shoulder’s range of motion starts to become progressively limited.
- Frozen stage. Pain may begin to diminish during this stage. But your shoulder becomes stiffer and using it becomes much more difficult. The range of motion is often severely restricted here.
- Thawing stage. The range of motion in your shoulder begins to improve and symptoms like pain start to get better. This typically will not happen on it’s own.
Treatment Of Frozen Shoulder
Medical treatment for frozen shoulder often involves medications and sometimes corticosteroid injections into the joint.
Sometimes physical therapy or possibly home exercises are prescribed in an attempt to restore some motion.
This might help some people.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t help many people.
Chiropractic For Shoulder Problems
Chiropractic can also help often more quickly and even in cases where the medications and physical therapy have been ineffective.
We recommend trying chiropractic first because restoring losses of motion is one area where chiropractors excel.
Research confirms that a Chiropractic approach to frozen shoulder can work very well.
